We Are Community for the week of Mar 23rd, 2026, by Joyce Steiner

We Are Community 299

Probably the most common greeting we use when we see someone we know is “Hi, how are you?”  This week I have to stop and look at the person to see if there is an indication that they have heard about my three-day mini vacation.   Thanks for all the prayers.  Sometimes I can even feel the warmth flow over me. Think I am doing well until some doctor either confirms that or tells me differently.  Again, thank you.

A reminder that there will be a chicken and noodle fund raiser dinner at the PCCC on Saturday, March 28 beginning at 4:30 pm.  Please come out and support the community center.

John Curtis wrote an excellent article about his grandparents for the Community News Brief.  We have heard that all of us are connected at some point in our lives.  Lois Curtis, John’s grandmother, was one of my 4H leaders along with Ruth Hammond.  They led the Club the Go Getter Gals in the Argyle neighborhood.  The Boy’s Club was the Argyle Lucky Clovers.  4H helped bring me from a very very shy child to someone that is confident and can speak before people.  Thanks to all those dedicated leaders out there both past and present.

There were some absolutely wonderful weather days this week.  Hope you were able to enjoy them.  Saturday was fabulous and the store was packed with shoppers.  Thanks so much to all who came out.  It was really appreciated.  The Paris, Missouri antique show is this week and I will miss it for the first time in many years.  Wonderful people, good sales and the first show of the season.  Just figured that tossing around really heavy banana boxes was not a really good idea at this time.

I would like a clarification from Adams at this time.  Several weeks ago, we were notified that Adams would no longer be using SecureIT for virus protection and that we should update.  Figured it was just another scam and ignored it until a friend said “no that it was for real”.  At that point we had two options, we could take our tower to the Quincy location and have it cleaned and the new protection put on for $69 or we could have Adams remotely update our computers.  I opted for the second choice and called.  They called back when I was at an auction.  Called again and never was called back.  Then that option ran out as they said they were so busy that they could not get to everyone.  Another option was given where you could pay for the updated virus protection and apply it to our computer ourself.  As I was not sure that I wanted to tackle this on my own, I asked a more computer literate friend to assist me.  He pointed out that Windows has come with its own virus protection for several years and that I did not need the new protection.  He even checked my computer and it did indeed have virus protection.  No where did Adams tell us that!  I fully trusted Adams and have always praised the company but now I wonder why they told us all that we had to update our protection when in fact I am sure that many, like me, use Windows and were already protected.  Until I learn more from Adams about this, I do not feel they were honest with their customers.

Think the weather is to become more seasonable.  My early flowers have a lot of freeze damage but they are valiantly trying to bloom anyway.

Pray for Peace and honesty in our world.  Seems so easy to lie about so many things these days.  Scatter Kindness and Love.
