We Are Community 277

What does one do when a racoon seems to have moved into your garage.  I left the garage door a bit ajar one day to let a kitty out and a racoon seemed to have noticed and moved in.  For a few days that was not a problem.  I opened all three overhead doors and the walk-in doors and thought it had gone out.  Wrong-the next morning the garage had been trashed.  Broken jars everywhere, all my animals knocked off shelves, gas cans over turned and just a terrible mess.  This prompted the setting of two coon traps and seemingly an exit from the garage.  To give the pest credit, it did use the kitty litter box!

After two weekends at Spoon River, this weekend saw me travel to the Collectors of Illinois Pottery and Stoneware convention in East Peoria.  Always an interesting weekend.  Found a crock from Camp Point, where I taught, to add to my collection and sold one of my Colchester jugs.  Was delighted to have my “neighbors” from Spoon River come and take me out to dinner.  That was very nice of them and much enjoyed.  Thank You.

Also, the usual book work to do and more unloading and reloading.  The van currently needs to be unloaded from convention so that I can go to the Lowderman auction on Thursday.  Happy to be done with show season for a while though I most likely will be happy to start it again next spring.

Was very sorry to learn that Carol Raycraft had passed.  She and her husband, Don, started 3rd Sunday Market 37 years ago and our families became good friends.  Their son Mike and wife Emily now run the show and I have gotten to watch their family grow up.  Good people.

The Antiques and Collectible club met on Wednesday at 7 pm at the Macomb city hall.  Good group.  The topic was what to do with your collections.  I have no children to pass my stoneware to but even some who have children find they are just not interested in what they love.  Several things were suggested as ways to dispose of one’s collections including auctions and antique stores.  Some things are also of interest to museums and one needs to consider what definitely needs to be saved as a part of history.  Good meeting.  Join us on the 3rd Wednesday of each month except December.

My kitties were definitely glad for me to get home and Sal just does not want to let go of me.

Looks like it is time for me to move my plants into the garage as the temperatures are to get down into the 30s this week.  Always a bit of a job but a way to save many of my plants through the winter to enjoy another growing season next spring.

Hope you had a good week.  There is so much hatred in our country.  Be sure you are not a part of it.  There is never a reason to be unkind to another person or any living thing.  Scatter Kindness and Love.
