We Are Community for the week of Oct 26th, 2026, by Joyce Steiner

We Are Community 330

I will admit that I am a bit “crabby” tonight so it is ok if you just scroll on.  I am sick of school shootings and the hate that divides our county.

When Jesus was asked what is the greatest commandment, He replied “To love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and that the second is like it to love your neighbor as yourself”.  He did not mean the person living next door as your neighbor but all of humanity.  Today we are urged to hate our neighbor if they are not white, if they worship differently than we do, if they wear clothes different form ours, if they chose to love someone of the same sex, and so many other things that should not be ours to judge.  Remember “judge not that you be not judged”.

We are mostly all immigrants or decedents of immigrants.  Most of our families came to America for a better life and people continue to do so today.  Many of our doctors, our professors, our roofers, the people who pick our crops, the people who work in slaughter houses and so many other occupations have come to America more recently.  The greatness of America is largely due to its diversity.  I do not ask you each week to scatter Kindness and Love lightly.

Yet we now have a branch of government who sole purpose is to lock up our neighbors and send them to prisons or out of our country.  That is just not right.  Everyone should be able to go to work and not to have to worry about being imprisoned or taken from their family.

Socialism is not communism.  Communism is Putin.  Socialism is roads, libaries, social security and help with food and insurance and more.  Socialism is working together for the good of all.

Urging hate is a divide and conquer tactic.  If we are busy hating others, we may not have time to see what is actually happening in our country.  We need to get help for those who would bring a gun to a crowded place to kill others.  Teaching us to hate others is not the answer to the problems we may have as a country.  The rant may be over for now but the need for love and understanding is never over.

Still unloading from Spoon River. Antique and Collectible club met on Wednesday.  The topic was sheet music form WWI.  I knew nothing about this so found it to be very interesting.  There is so much to learn in the antique world!

The Plymouth Square was filled with cars and side by sides yesterday with people ho came to honor Ernie Diseron.  Obviously, he had many friends and will be missed.

Have a good week.  Enjoy the wonderful weather.  Stop to look at the sunsets, the full moon, the fall flowers and take time to meet your neighbors and make new friends.  Scatter Kindness and Love to all.
