Mix a teacher of 25 years with an antique dealer of 43 years with a lady married to car dealer for 25 years into one “little old lady” and you probably should not say “I’ll give you $3” for a duck priced at $4.95. First, the antique dealer will explain what had to be spent just to set up the booth, second it is not worth negotiating on something priced under $10 and thirdly the words “I’ll give you” really are not very nice. Then the teacher takes over and suggests that one use the words “would x work for you?”. This gives the dealer a chance to say yes or no “but y would work for me” which in turn gives the customer a chance to say yes or no. A deal is normally reached and everyone is relatively happy. Explained this to a business man today and I think we could have become friends.
The weather was great for the first weekend of Spoon River. The gym at the Red Brick School in Smithfield was filled with dealers. Most of us have been setting up there for several years and we are good friends. The traffic was great on Saturday. The food is always wonderful. Had a good day.
Sunday was also a nice day weatherwise but the traffic is always less on the second day. Had a great breakfast of cocoanut crème pie followed by lunch of chicken and noodles and a wonderful home-made apple dumpling for an afternoon snack. The show balanced when I got home. Good weekend.
The rest of the week was normal. Grocery shopping, closed out the month at the store, fed kitties, loaded and unloaded and set up the show, took photos of sunsets and flowers and sent them to friends. Like to just take a few minutes each day to watch the sun set and to thank God for the day.
My world is upsetting. I do not think the military should be training in our cities. I do not think that war is ever the answer to any problem. My generation lived through Vietnam and I have friends who still suffer greatly from that experience. Pray for our country and its leaders.
Have a good week. Come and see me at the Red Brick School if you didn’t this week-or come back again. Enjoy the summer weather in October. Look out for farm equipment on the highways and be careful in the dust storms they produce. Crops should come out quickly.
If you follow Facebook, you will notice so much hate being spewed there. Try to do better. Hate filled comments are never helpful and are often very hurtful and unnecessary. Work really hard at scattering Kindness and Love. The Bible has two testaments and the new one is filled with Love for all people whether rich or poor, friend or foe-just Love one another.
