We Are Community for the week of Oct 27th, 2025, by Joyce Steiner

We Are Community 278

Glad I was able to visit the White House many years ago while it was still intact.  I believe one entered through the East Wing.  Another thing I remember from that event is that I knew another person in line at the same time.  Small world.  We are all interconnected and what happens to one of us affects all of us.

Busy week as usual.  Low tire lights came on in both the van and the Toyota.  Got car tires aired up but have not had a chance to get van checked.  The van always has a low tire light when the weather cools so I do not worry about it that much.

Hy-Vee had cosmic crisp apples on sale.  I recognized that as a new variety and heard that they were good so tried them.  Went back for more.  Nice firm apple with lots of juice.  Would prefer a bit more tartness, but very good, large and pretty.

I love animals.  I feed kitties, birds, squirrels and racoons but not willingly.  Have had a family of young coons coming to the back porch every night to finish off the kitty food.  I don’t like this as they can crawl on to the roof and can be destructive so I have live traps.  Got a fresh bag of marshmallows and set the trap.  First night the rascal got a free dessert.  Second night, the trap got it.  I load them up and carry them across the Lamoine river so they either have to swim or cross the bridge to get back.  The little fella was terrified. Did not want to leave the trap, then climbed a tree and clung there.  I felt so sorry for it.  I do have a good photo of it sticking its head out of my kitty house to remember it by.  Hope it learns not to cross any highways and how to find food in the wild.

Had a house full of hunters from New York and Georgia this week.  They came in late and left early so don’t know if they got any deer or not.

Want to thank Rocco and Chris Ramsey for having a church wiener roast last evening.  Normally can’t go as same weekend as stoneware convention but this year convention dates changed.  Enjoyed sitting by a fire and roasting wieners but enjoyed going into their warm cabin just as much.  Love their cabin, suggested it could be moved to my back yard!

I am not sure my kitties are good adults.  I put out three bowls with kitty food in them and then put out some kitten chow for one kitten.  All the adults eat the kitten food including its mother.  Hum.. Seems like good adults would let the young one eat.

Have been lots of people in the store this week.  Really want to thank you all.  Have not gotten all my auction items unloaded or priced yet but will work on that more this week.

Have a great week.  The fall temperatures seem to be here.  Got part of my plants moved into the garage and will try to move in more this week. Be kind.  It would be so easy to get really upset with our political landscape but we have to consider our mental health and we need to be able to help those who need our help.  Scatter Kindness and Love.
