This week Plymouth celebrates the 140th Old Settlers reunion. Quite an achievement for a small village. Events begin at 3 pm on Friday the 28th. Boden Amusements will be here all three days. The hog roast begins at 5 pm on Friday and the fish and chicken dinner at 5 pm on Saturday. You will not want to miss either event. Saturday morning the American Legion will have their bountiful breakfast beginning at 7 am. It will feature three meats, eggs, potatoes and more. Breakfast is always great and helps support our Legion. The PCCC will have a dessert stand on Friday and Saturday featuring pie, cake, cookies and ice cream. The Old Settlers committee will have a food shack all three days. So come out and eat with us!
There is a lot more than food at Old Settlers. There will be vendors, a bounce house, pageant, button drawings, games, fireworks on Friday, a car show, a parade at 11 am on Saturday, a scavenger hunt for the kids, a tractor show, church in the park at 10 am Sunday, a pie baking and eating contest, the carnival and much more.
There will also be free entertainment all three days. Friday features Southern Rail at 8 pm. Randall Lang and the River Road Rucks perform 4 to 6 pm and Eric William Icenogle and Dan Shipman are featured at 7 pm on the stage on Saturday. At 1 pm on Sunday there will be a Patsy and Johnny Cash tribute show.
Old Settlers brings people back to their Plymouth roots also. So come and enjoy the food, the entertainment and perhaps just as important, come and see friends that you may not have seen for a while.
Last week the Powerball prize topped a billion dollars. That is amazing. Ones chances of winning are dismal at best. But for $2 one can spend a couple of days dreaming about who one would share the prize with and all the people one could help if they one that much money. A friend bought a ticket and gave it to me. I think that was one of the sweetest things that has done for me.
My Queen of the Night cactus had 7 blooms one night this week and another had 2. I have never had so many blossoms at one time. Truly beautiful. I shared some photos on Facebook.
We are so sorry for the passing of long-time gentlemen in our community- Larry Highland and Gerhard Jung. Such a loss. They will certainly be missed.
I use Clover to take credit cards at Plymouth Rock. Great company to work with. I had a problem and was charged for a problem that I had not been notified about. Asked my person to see if I could get a refund. Got a call from a lady asking if I had gotten the refund. Talked to her twice for over 10 minutes. She asked all sorts of questions and had me jump through all kinds of hoops. I was surprised that she seemed to know so little about small business and that she eventually hung up on me. When I reported it to my Clover contact in Quincy, he said it was a scam. Must admit that she was good. I am pretty careful!
Was sitting on the patio this afternoon when friends saw me and stopped by just to chat. We do not do enough of that today.
