As we age, we become less steady on our feet. Having more trouble with balance since my stint in the hospital in March. Saw there was a Tai Chi class being offered in Macomb so I signed up. So did 30 other people. First class was last Monday. One lady is knowledgeable enough she asked about “core” work outs. I, on the other hand, am just trying not to topple over! Should be an interesting few months. We meet on Mondays and Wednesdays. Hope I don’t embarrass myself too badly.
Had a couple of dealers frow Wyoming last week. They stop by once a year and buy for their store. Really nice people and I look forward to seeing them each year. I keep telling you that I meet such nice people in the antique business.
Signed up to advertise on a national site. It is Antique Trail.com and will have a lot of photos of the store on the site. I have been in business for 44 years and still have people tell me that they did not know my store existed. Though it was expensive, if just one big dealer finds my store, it will be money well spent. There are fewer and fewer shows and shops so we need to work together to keep those of us here going.
Just returned from the Hancock County Democratic fish fry. It was at the golf course north of Carthage. First there was a golf outing with the proceeds going to the food banks in the county. Then there was the fish fry with all the trimmings. The fish was just excellent! There were also many side dishes and desserts. Jennifer Todd, who is running against Mary Miller, was the featured speaker. You will remember Mary Miller as the person who sponsored legislation against pole dancing in schools-as if there has ever been a problem with pole dancing in schools! Get real. Funding yes, lack of teachers, yes, lack of free lunch money, yes and so many real problems- but pole dancing! There were also fund raisers for scholarships for high school girls in Hancock County. Silent auctions and a 50/50 drawing raised money for the scholarships. I actually won the 50/50 drawing! Gave the money back for the scholarships. A big thanks to all who work so long and hard for the people of Hancock County.
I look like I have been in a fight. I have a bruise on my lip, on my arm and on my foot. Wondered how I had managed to get a bruise on the top of my foot. Was walking through Walmart pushing my cart which had a couple of cans of soup in the basket. A can fell out of the basket and landed on my foot. That really hurt and I think I just figured out how I got a bruise on the top of my foot!
Remember the Spoon River Drive this and next weekend. It goes on Friday and Saturday of both weekends. Have my first load at the Red Brick School in Smithfield and will add to that and set up this Friday. Come and see me and many others at the school.
