The 139th Plymouth Old Settlers is officially over with only barricades still blinking to keep vigil. I believe a good time was had by all! There was something for everyone to enjoy. The food was great. Friday evening featured a hog roast while Saturday featured the fish and chicken which is traditional. I think the buffalo was the best ever and the catfish nuggets are great too. Understand the chicken was also perfect. There were many stands featuring lemon shake ups, pie, cake, ice cream and root beer floats, honey, Amish baked goods, funnel cakes and more.
The committee paid for an artist to do chalk drawings and face painting which were then free to the public. The artist was very talented as I watched him work on Sunday afternoon. The car show was huge! The tractor show was interesting as there were many types of tractors and the biggest spray vehicle I have ever seen parked in front of my antique store on Sunday. The parade had a lot of entries and am sorry to report that this parade judge does not know enough about tractors to properly place them. Boden Amusements was there to provide carnival rides to those who love carnivals. The stage was nicely decorated for the contests and the entertainment. There were bands each evening and also music Saturday and Sunday afternoons. New to the event was a nice fireworks display on Friday evening. And we should not forget the Legion breakfast on Saturday morning which is always yummy.
I think all the people who came to enjoy the weekend are very grateful for all the long hours and hard work done by the committee to make this show a huge success. I even talked to a gentleman from Alaska who came for the festivities so I know many traveled to come back for the reunion. Also, thanks to all the businesses and individuals who paid for sponsorships to help pay for the events. Unless you have helped, one may not realize just how much work is involved to make all these events run smoothly. THANK YOU!
The world did go on this week too. Unloaded from 3rd Sunday Market for three days. Got a new air pump for the fish ponds and put it in place however it does not help much when the coons pull the tubing out of the ponds. Took photos of several lovely sunsets and beautiful flowers. Really dry so those flowers are struggling. Baked three cakes for the Plymouth Circle dessert stand. Do you have any idea how frustrating it is when one is beating egg whites for an angel food cake and the mixer dies at two and a half minutes out of five. The cake was a bit short!
The Illinois Department of Public Health asked for an interview and I spent thirty minutes on the phone for the interview. I was very happy to help and very impressed with the depth of the questions and the opportunity to find helpful resources if needed. I hope good can come from the survey.
Again, a big thank you to all wo worked so long and hard to make Old Setters such a success. The weather cooperated nicely too. Enjoy your week and remember that this weekend there are celebrations at Argyle Lake, Colchester and Nauvoo for Labor Day. Scatter Kindness and Love to all.
