It was definitely a week focused on antiques. Two friends are moving so I was able to purchase some new merchandise for the store. Instead of putting the things into the store, I put many of them directly into banana boxes to take to 3rd Sunday Market. No matter how much inventory one has, there is always a need for “fresh merchandise”. It is great to be able to buy locally.
Packed boxes Tuesday and Wednesday and got them into the van. Then loaded some signs, furniture, stoneware, plants and more. It is amazing how much one can get into a Dodge Caravan. I certainly wish that they had not stopped making them because they are the perfect show van having sliding doors on both sides as well as a back door. I now have lists on my desk to make sure that I have all the supplies with me that I need. Once I forgot my table cloths and had to stop at Walmart and buy fabric in Pekin on the way to Bloomington! Anyway got off on time on Saturday, got there in good time and got set up with no problems. Even sold some things on Saturday.
Sunday it rained in Bloomington. I understand that there was quite a bit of water in places outside but it was nice and dry inside and actually the rain brings the people, who were brave enough to come to the show anyway, inside. Just a big thank you to the show owners and all the people who come and shop. It is a lot of work but also rewarding. Love seeing all the people and would you believe that I even get compliments on this column in Bloomington. Thank you all.
Wednesday was Antique and Collectible club. We meet the third Wednesday at the Macomb city hall at 7 pm. I have been in the antique business forever but there is still so much to learn. This week the subject was baseball and other collectible cards. We call these “collectibles” because they are not over 100 years old. I am so glad that this club was formed and continues to be informative. Good people.
Want to ask for prayers. There is so much that needs help in our world. Please pray for those who are ill. Then continue with prayers for our country. There is so much that needs to be changed. Continue to pray for our planet. We have only one earth on which to live and we are not taking good care of it or its inhabitants.
Make plans to enjoy the Spoon River Drive. The dates are October 3 and 4 and 10 and 11. I will be set up at the Red Brick School in Smithfield as well other friends. We would love to see you.
