Congratulations Spain! In a world with so much conflict, how nice to see pure joy.
Two historic society meetings this week. Both Great. Craig Rigg spoke to the Colchester group on the Joseph Smith family. Two of Joseph’s sisters are buried in Colchester and another is in Webster If I remember correctly. Learned so much about the rest of the family. Then Saturday evening the Hancock County Historic Society had Heather Greenslaw and Tim Phelps speaking on cemeteries. They talked about lost cemeteries and how we need to find and preserve them as some are just being bulldozed. They also showed how to witch graves and to tell the sex of the deceased. Both presentations were excellent and if you get a chance to her these speakers, you should.
Started celebrating my birthday week today. Always went to the Hotel Nauvoo but that is no longer possible which is sad. Lunch at KD’s Coop today. Thank you. The bank is throwing a party on my birthday which is great! As we get older, we should be thankful as so many do not have this privilege.
Plymouth is growing. There is a new home going up and a new pickle ball court being put in near the ball park. So glad to see new life in our small town.
There is currently so much conflict in our country. I also remember vaguely when we thought there was a communist hiding behind every bush. Afraid this may happen again because some confuse socialism with communism. My understanding of modern democratic socialism is quite different from communism. Democratic socialists believe in democracy, free elections and equal rights. They believe in people over profit which includes healthcare, education, housing and basic needs for all. They believe in economic fairness such as closing the wealth gap and making the economy work for everyone not just for a very few. They believe in worker power with fair wages and safe work places. They believe is protecting our planet for today and the future. They believe in equal opportunity and respect for every person. You will have heard of the newly elected mayor of New York being a democratic socialist and hopefully this will help you understand what that means.
Do not hate your neighbor just because you disagree with them or they have a different skin color, or a physical defect or a different religion etc. Each person is entitled to their opinion but we are not entitled to destroy our planet just for profit for a few. We need clean energy, peace in our world, respect for others even if we disagree with them. We need for every citizen to have the right to cast a vote without fear. I would just like for all of us to get in a big chorus line and sing the song “Let There Be Peace on Earth and Let It Begin With Me”.
