We Are Community for the week of Nov 3rd, 2025, by Joyce Steiner

We Are Community 279

As you know pausing to watch the sunset, taking photos to send to friends and thanking God for the day is one of my favorite times of day.  With the return to Central Standard time, this becomes nearly impossible as my store is open till five pm.  Will miss this special time but maybe I can get in on the after-sunset show.

Halloween means different things to different people.  Many decorate for the holiday.  Think most forget that it is a time to remember those “saints” who have gone on to their next life.  Perhaps we can do both.  The Plymouth Old Settlers committee does a really good job with providing things for people to do to celebrate Halloween.  There were many people on the Square passing out candy-trunk or treat.  Darrell and Sue Roberts offered hot dogs, hot chocolate and more to those who stopped by their camper.  There was a pumpkin carving contest and a scavenger hunt.  Thanks so much for doing all this for our small town.

There were many really cute costumes this year.  Think my favorite was Nicole Baldwin as a Bag Lady.  Quite a fashionable dress made entirely of black plastic bags.  Was also very pleased by many of the youngsters.  I was giving out small individually wrapped candy bars and as they were so small encouraged them take more than one.  Many just took one small candy bar and most said thank you!  Finally got cold but it was a nice evening and fun to see everyone and to see the costumes and children having fun.

This is an upbeat column but sometimes I just feel the need to express an opinion.  I love ice cream!  After a meal, I sometimes stop by Burger King and order ice cream in a cup.  The price has gone from 99 cents to $1.69 for a small cup.  What is interesting to me is that the servers all put the ice cream around the outside of the cup leaving the center empty.  It looks like the cup is full but it is not as the center is empty.  I think they could do better than this.

There were two weddings in our Amish community this week so I had a driver at the B&B for four days.  One of the weddings was for a widow who was the grandmother of the other person getting married if I understood correctly.  Think this is wonderful and did not know it was a custom for the Amish to remarry.  Hope both have many happy years together.

Took the rest of my plants into the garage this week as it was to freeze.

Mark your calendars for the PCCC Bazaar which will be held on Saturday November 22nd from 9 to 4 at the PCCC.  There will be crafts, soup by the quart and many desserts.

My alarm is set for 8:30 am and one day this week I was awakened at 8:15 by a female voice saying “Joyce” quite loudly but there was no one there.  Always makes me wonder if someone has passed away but I don’t know why this happens.  A friend said it had also happened to him this week.

Have a good week.  The leaf color is fantastic.  Be sure to pause to look at the world around you.  Scatter Kindness and Love.
