The big news this week has to be the storms on Friday evening. The safest place in Plymouth is my main store building because it has an old bank vault in it which has 29-inch concrete walls reinforced with railroad track. I was there till a bit after 6 pm on Friday because I had a customer coming in to buy a nice piece of stoneware. Probably should have stayed at the store but wanted to see what was on TV about the storms. There was a lot! Tornados touched down in Denver just west of Plymouth and Colmar just north east of Plymouth. Both had many high line posts down. Amazing to see them leaning, broken off, or completely flat on the ground with wires still attached. I saw no house damage in Denver but so may lines down and they still had no power on Saturday evening. Colmar lost the elevator buildings and there was damage to the railroad crossing. The houses and the church seemed to have survived but it certainly would have been a scary evening. The power in Plymouth went off Friday evening and came back on about 12 hours later. Certainly makes those whole house generators look attractive. Cannot tell the linemen just how much they are appreciated. Cannot even imagine being out in those storms trying to restore power. Thank You!
Marla Visdol gave a program on Vishnu Springs for the Colchester Historical Society on Tuesday evening. She told about Vishnu from its very beginning. As I have mentioned, I grew up on a farm which bordered the east side of Vishnu land so visited often as a child and young adult. Also have one of the guest books from Vishnu which will go to a museum eventually.
Wednesday evening the Antique and Collectible club met at the Macomb city building. The program was on Coco Cola collectibles and was fun. Someone asked the speaker if she would sell her collection if someone offered her a million dollars. She said “no”. When you offer me a million dollars for my stoneware collections, you will need a very large truck and a strong back!
On Saturday night the program for the Hancock County Historic Society was on the health of Abraham Lincoln. There are many theories about his health issues but our speaker felt he was actually very healthy while living in a time that little was known about most diseases and how to prevent them. He felt that Lincoln had malaria three times and probably small pox once. As he also took a medicine that had a lot of mercury in it, it is likely that he also had some mercury poisoning. As for all the other theories, he felt Lincoln was very healthy until he was shot. Very interesting program and very well attended.
Managed to snag my sandal on a hose and pitch forward on to my concrete patio. My doctor said that one could not land on a right knee and a left shoulder. I have the skinned knee and a very sore shoulder to prove her wrong. My life has been very interesting of late.
My peach trees bloomed when it froze and I have not got even one baby peach.
Have a great week. Scatter Kindness and Love!
