We Are Community for the week of Mar 30th, 2026, by Joyce Steiner

We Are Community 300

This column started as the “Plymouth News” many years ago in the local paper.  Now this is the 300th column as “We Are Community”.  Let’s see 52 weeks in a year-that is a pretty good run.  Thanks to all who read my thoughts and tell me you look forward to them.  Thank You!

I guess as we get older that we should expect to lose friends.  Learned that the gentleman who did all the wood working for my shop and did a lot of wood working for my kitchen passed away.  He could be gruff but I will also always remember that he was the first person to tell me how sorry he was when my husband passed. Everyone has good points.  Also learned that another friend had been in the hospital for several days. Seems to be going around.

Thanks to everyone who ate chicken and noodles to help raise funds for the Plymouth Circle Community Center.  It was appreciated.  We had a great selection of desserts as well as chicken and noodles.

Have had some very nice weather days and some lovely sunsets this week.  Back under my framing tree at the end of the block.  Got some really nice photos tonight.  So good to just relax for a few minutes and enjoy the evening.

Do all my store work on green sheets.  I can condense a whole year of store information on only one big green sheet and it has to come out to the penny.  My tax preparer, John Dittmer, and I have a mutual admiration connection.  His kitty, Kevin, also likes me and climbed on to my lap while we were doing taxes.

I absolutely loved Rudy’s Sunday chicken and took advantage of it most every Sunday with friends.  Now the restaurant has been sold and is even closed on Sunday.  This means that I am looking for a new Sunday lunch spot.  Have gone to Macomb to Hometown Café and Yummy Chens.  Have yet to find my Sunday lunch “home”.  Would welcome any suggestions in the area from Keokuk to Macomb.

Understand that DJT is going to put his name on the one-dollar bill.  I suggest you purchase a box of markers before they all sell out.

I hope you have a good week.  We missed yet another storm this week and for that I am thankful.  We do need rain as I see farmers in the field and the dust is really blowing when they are working the ground.  Pray for peace and for your neighbors.  As I have mentioned there seems to be a lot of sickness in the area.  Scatter Kindness and Love even if it seems hard.  It will benefit both the giver and the receiver.
