We Are Community 217
The last B&B guest has left, the lift with the flag has been lowered and the clanging of metal indicates that the carnival rides are being torn down. Thus ends the 138th Plymouth Old Settlers Celebration.
Many good things this year! Plymouth had a carnival. There were also several bounce houses for the smaller children. There was a good turnout for the car show. The food was great. My compliments to the people who cooked the fish and chicken. Loved the catfish bites and the buffalo was well cooked. There were a variety of food stands. The Plymouth Women’s Circle served pie, cake and ice cream. Thanks so much for supporting the work of the group. There was an Amish family with desserts, a funnel cake stand, two drink stands and more, I am sure. There was also a dunk tank and the train was very busy each evening. Brays form a donkey in the petting zoo often added to the noise of the celebration.
All types of entertainment graced the stage. One of the things which impressed me most was an attempt to have something for everyone. Saturday saw a car show for those who like cars. Sunday there was a tractor show as we are a farming community. Sunday there was a nice church service sponsored by the Plymouth Baptist church and after the service they provided a meal for anyone who wished to attend. People from the church furnished the food and there were desserts from both the Circle and Amish dessert stands.
After the church service, the focus was on the children. There were places to do activities, a clown, a stage performance by two jesters, tea with the Queen and more. Wonderful planning by the committee to have special entertainment for all ages.
I thought the buttons were the best ever!
My heartfelt thanks to Donny Miller and Kimmy Vallier who headed up the committee this year. They could be found everywhere around the park and I even say Kim by the dunk tank. It takes a lot of people doing a lot of work to make something this big work. Thanks to all the people who unloaded trailers and set up the grounds. To all those who cooked and served the food. To those who booked the entertainment-it was great. Thanks to all the people who attended the celebration and hope that it brought some joy to each person involved. A really big Thank You to all the sponsors.
Life also went on this week. I balanced the show from 3rd Sunday then spent two days unloading and putting things away.
Puff and I watched the Democratic Convention just as we watched two nights of the Republican one. Absolutely loved the enthusiasm and the positive vibes.
The Antiques and Collectibles Club met at the business home of Engraving by Lin on the east side of the Macomb Square on Wednesday evening. We meet the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7 pm. Was very interesting.
Thursday evening, I baked three cakes for the food stand. Had to sample one of the earthquake cakes.
Hope you had a good week too. Scatter Kindness and Love and if you see Donny or Kim, be sure to tell them how much you appreciated all their hard work and the long selfless hours which they spent.
