It is Labor Day weekend. For some the official end to summer, for others a day off work or the last summer vacation. For some of my friends and for me in the past, a weekend to sell antiques at a show. Though I no longer set up at Argyle on Labor Day, I had good sales at the store this weekend and two requests to open on Sunday which I did not do as it was Sunday. Thanks to all who shopped the store this weekend!
Thursday, I made a quick trip to the Hancock County Sheriff’s office and since it was closer just headed straight to Macomb to get an orchid for my sister-in-law. While getting the orchid at Hy-Vee found that they had their Thursday night steak special for lunch also. Enjoyed my lunch at my store as didn’t have time to eat it at Hy-Vee. Love their restaurant!
Colchester has a big Labor Day celebration and there is also a gas engine show at Argyle Lake state park. I checked Colchester Friday morning and bought a lemonade crock.
We had visitation for my sister-in-law, Ila Steiner Robb, on Friday evening in Colchester and services for her on Saturday morning at the Colchester cemetery. Thanks to all who came to those events. She was a large part of my very small family. She will be missed as will my nice, Marcella, who passed away last October. Too many losses.
My husband was a car dealer so there has been a car dealership in my family for a very long time. Now there is not so I am having to find where to get work done, how much it should cost and so much more. My friends are probably getting tired of being asked so many questions but a thank you to them for suggestions.
Colchester is close to Plymouth and now that I am not set up as a dealer at Argyle, I get to check out that celebration. After closing my store on Saturday, went to Colchester for the church dinner served in the park. Just looked around in the food tent and found two officers I knew so sat with them for the meal and watched a bit of the entertainment. Sunday morning was church followed by chicken at Rudy’s with friends then back to Colchester for the parade. Then home for a while then off to Argyle to check out the show. Seems I was a bit late but got one bird house anyway. Since I was close to Colchester, decided to go back. Got there for the last three songs of the gospel concert. Those were great. Then to the food tent again for dinner and found friends to sit with again. Nice meal.
Had one of my favorite return B&B guests too this weekend. Always nice to have her here. As she is leaving early in the morning, told her to “be very quiet”.
My tomatoes are now bearing so had my first BLT this week.
I hope you had a great holiday weekend. Hope you got to see friends and enjoy some time off. Hope you enjoyed the great weather and that you have been able to stop a few minutes to enjoy the sunsets and the beautiful fall flowers. Some of the sunflowers at my store have fallen over but they continue to bravely bloom. Grow where you are planted. Scatter Kindness and Love, especially Love in this political season.
One more thought. So many people tell me that they love this column. Thank You. You have no idea how honored I am that you read, enjoy and like it. Not to sure how a physics and math major ended up writing a column for newspapers but I love your positive feedback. Love You.
