We Are Community for the week of Sept 9th, 2024, by Joyce Steiner

We Are Community 219

Monday was Labor Day.  A day off work for some but a normal Monday for me as I always take Monday off from the store.  One of my nephews met me to give me some plants from his mother’s funeral.  We then went for ice cream at the Full Scoop as I had missed the after-service ice cream.  I also stopped by Argyle Lake for a few minutes of reflection.  It is closer than the Mississippi but I do love the river.

There have been some really great sunsets this week.  A really unusual one on Tuesday as there was a pink con trail I think but it lasted a very long time and was huge.  Beautiful.

Tuesday was Singing and Mingling at the Golden Good Shepherd home.  Jeff and Pam Nielsen also stopped by the store on Tuesday.  Was so great to see them.  The Nielsen boys were from Claton and their dad was a dentist there.  Great family.

Wednesday included an open house in Macomb hosted by IPI.  Had not attended before but enjoyed the food and seeing some friends.  Bad part of Wednesday was the shooting of two police officers and the standoff with the shooter which lasted a whole day.  Very sad that our nation has so many shootings and yet so little appetite for gun control.  Got back to Plymouth for a bit of the Village Board meeting which saw two members of the Board absent.  Though it may not seem like it to some, it is a very important position and should be taken seriously as good local government is vital for the wellbeing of our villages and large cities too for that matter.

Friday, I took the van to Macomb for two new tires.  Tried Moore’s Tires as I had heard good things about the store.  Also had a couple at the B&B who were driving for the Amish.  Nice couple.

The Balloon Rally was in Macomb this weekend.  Gentry Motor sponsored a balloon for many years but I never went for a ride.  One always figures there will be another year and sometimes there is not.  The balloons are very colorful.  Got to see them coming in over the tree tops, landing, then see others inflate for the balloon glow.  Just beautiful.  There was a great attendance and I was amazed at the number of small children.  Everyone seemed to be having a good time.

Went behind my store today to feed Lion and found shredded paper in between the buildings.  Finally figured out that it was from a plastic igloo dog house which I used to feed the ferals in when it rains or snows.  We would really appreciate it if the igloo was returned.  As you know, I take care of feral kitties.  I have them spayed, an ear clipped to show that it has been done, feed and water them and any other hungry kitties who happen to come by the store every day.  Three of my kitties that were spayed are missing.  Each of these kitties is loved.  Please let them live in peace.

Sunday went to the Terre Haute Community Church to hear Daryl Mosley in concert.  He is a singer and song writer and told stories about the songs he has written.  Very nice afternoon.  There was even a light dinner after the concert.  Though Terre Haute is a small town, the church building is lovely.  A big thank you to Rev. Lee Unger and the church for the invitation.

The Antiques and Collectibles Club meets on Wednesday evening at 7 pm at City Hall in Macomb. Everyone is welcome to attend.

It seems like fall is here this week.  Even heard of frost not far from here.  Enjoy the cooler weather, enjoy the beautiful sunsets and remember to be kind during this political season when kindness seems to be in short supply.  Scatter Kindness and Love.
