We Are Community 244
It was Maya Angelou who said “When someone shows you who they are, believe them”. We were all shown this week. Thank you for the feedback on last week’s column.
Attended the Old Settlers Matador fund raiser on Saturday evening. Looked to be well attended. Thanks to all who turned out. Attended the open house for Bruce Morton’s photo exhibit at the Western Illinois Museum on Sunday. There was a nice crowd for the event as well as cookies. If you have not attended any of the many events held at the museum, I suggest that you do so. There is a nice variety of exhibits and entertainment held at the museum.
A new twist on a scam this week-my caller ID said “U Haul” but when I answered, a nice gentleman from a foreign country started on about my Walgreen’s account and as I have no Walgreen’s account, I promptly hung up.
Julie Wise and I were hostesses for Circle on Wednesday evening. Circle is planning a chicken and noodle fundraising dinner for March 22. Please put this on your calendar. It will be dine in or carry out. We are currently raising funds for a new furnace for the community room. We now have a new roof, a dry basement, a new furnace for the chapel, painting done and the building looks nice. If you need accommodations for a wedding, family gathering, funeral, fund raising event or more, just contact 309 333 7778 for information or to reserve the building.
The store has had many more customers since the weather has gotten better. Have had a couple of dealers in too. Appreciate the business. Thank you.
Those fake lady bugs are absolutely amazing! I have a washer and dryer upstairs in a closet. When I do laundry, I leave the lid open when washing a load so it can soak a bit longer then later close the lid and finish the wash cycle. Some of those lady bugs got into the washer when the lid is open. After the wash cycle was done and I took the clothes out of the washer and put them in the dryer, I cleaned several lady bug bodies out of the washer and tossed them in the garbage can. One of them walked away. Remember this creature had gone through a wash cycle, a rise cycle and a couple of spin cycles and still walked away. Found that absolutely amazing.
I also learned another interesting thing this week. I put a very thick soup in the micro wave to heat. It was a small glass dish with a lid. I heard some interesting sounds coming from the microwave but when one louder one came, I opened the door to find the soup had blown the lid off the dish and splattered soup all over the inside of the oven. Perhaps there is such a thing as a too thick soup!
Finally decided that the finches had eaten most of the seeds out of the sunflowers at the store so took them down this week. Also took the Christmas flowers out of the iron kettles. I am officially ready for spring at the store.
Hope you have a good week. In this time of division, it is truly important to be kind to each other. Scatter Kindness and Love.
