We Are Community for the week of Nov 4th, 2024, by Joyce Steiner

We Are Community 227

Our sympathy to the family of George Siepel of Plymouth who passed away on October 28th.  He was 95 years old which was a good long life.  Also, our sympathy the family of Dr. Lotz of Animal Medical Center in Macomb.  These men will be missed by so many.

There are currently two opportunities to help the Plymouth community.  The Plymouth American Legion is selling Raffle tickets to rise money for the Legion building.  They will sell 200 tickets at $10.  Prizes are $500, $250, $100 and $50.  You may buy tickets from members or at Plymouth Rock Antiques.

The Plymouth Old Settlers Committee is selling chances to win $250 of gas from Rhodes Mini Mart.  Tickets are $5 with the drawing being November 16th.

Also remember the Plymouth Circle Bazaar coming up on November 23 at the PCCC.

Changed insurance companies last fall so my premiums are now coming due.  Really nice to have a local representative where I can go and ask the questions which I have about the policies and coverages.

Plymouth had a great Halloween celebration this year.  We had Trunk or Treat on the Square and those who live in town could also turn on their porch light and give treats at their home.  One of the great things about the Trunk or Treat on the Square was the ability for people who do not live in town to participate in the fun too.  Would especially like to thank Darrell and Sue Roberts who brought their camper to the Square and cooked hot dogs for everyone.  They also had cupcakes and much more.  Brad and Marcy Hopping were also on the Square as were many others.  Many had really creative decorations on the vehicles while I just drove up and parked!  Will have to do better next year with the decorations.  There were lots of children in nice costumes who came out to enjoy the evening.  Thanks to all who participated in the event.

Ran into the couple set up next to me at Spoon River in a small restaurant in East Peoria.  Small world.

Attended the Nauvoo Historic Society meeting on Saturday evening.  It was held at the Hotel Nauvoo.  There was a good attendance and Dr. John Hallwas was the speaker for the event.

Am always telling you how much I love my phone.  With the election near, there are many comments from both sides on many platforms.  One of the platforms I use is Facebook.  One can just scroll on by when we do not agree with content.  One can also hit the block button when comments become too offensive.  This week I did a lot of scrolling and probably should have scrolled one more time.  I made a short comment on a friend’s page and was immediately attacked by a local pastor.  Perhaps that person missed the day the lecture was given on what is the greatest commandment… “and love your neighbor as yourself”.  The Old Testament contains quite a bit of war and vengeance but the New Testament is about love.  We are to love everyone.  Jesus ate with, healed, taught, fed and more ALL people.   Perhaps life would be easier if it came with a block button.  When some one is mean or nasty to another person, they could just hit the block button.

Have a good week.  It will be dark before I leave the store so fewer sunset photos for my friends.  Scatter Kindness and Love to not only those you see in person but also those you interact with on social media.  Remember we are not equipped with a block button or the ability to just scroll on past in our lives.
