We Are Community 224

Another Spoon River is in the books.  Have had an antique store for 42 years and think we did Spoon River the first year we opened.  We have always been in Smithfield but have been at the ball park, down town and in the Red Brick School since it opened for the Drive.  Love the school.  We have such a nice group of vendors in the gym.  We share the ramp for getting things into the gym and we were treated to donuts today by one of the vendors.  Thank You.  Sold less than usual but the weather was nice all four days and perhaps shoppers were inclined to stay out doors or perhaps the split in the sponsors has had an effect.  Anyway, I got to spend time with friends, sell quite a bit of stuff and thanks to help from the Baldwins, everything is back in Plymouth but will take a while to get everything unloaded and put back in place.  Thanks to all who shopped with us and thanks to the people who commented on this column.

Did bookwork from the first weekend on Monday and got everything balanced.  Went to the Hancock County Democrat meeting in Carthage on Monday also and ate at the Mexican restaurant in its new location on the north side of the square.

Wednesday, I moved a few plants into the garage to get a start on that.  Is to get cold this week so have lots more to move in.  I try to keep a lot of my plants through the winter so I don’t have to buy so many in the spring.  Read where one could dig the tubers from vining sweet potato plants and start them in the spring.  Will try that as sweet potato plants are pretty pricey.  I have both red and green plants this year.  The red plants bloomed nicely with pink blossoms.

Plymouth Circle met on Wednesday and we continued to plan our Bazaar which is November 23rd at the PCCC.  We will have crafts, candy, baked goods and soup by the quart.  Please mark your calendars.  All funds raised go into keeping up the building.  We are currently having earth work done to try to keep water from going into the basement.

Thursday as I headed to Carthage found someone in my bus garage.  Asked what they were doing and said they had permission.  Perhaps one should know that they are talking to the owner before trying to bamboozle someone. As I was coming home from Carthage, I got a phone call from a Hancock County Sheriff officer saying there was “suspicious activity” in my garage.  She said she would wait for me to get there and I also called for backup.  Hopefully we got the situation in hand.  Would like to thank the Sheriff deputy for her good work.

Most everyone in the state got wonderful photos of the northern lights on Thursday.  I sat on a dark county road for 90 minutes and saw one shooting star, three airplanes and several constellations which I recognized but not color in the sky.  At least I got to see northern lights when growing up on the farm.  Seemed like they were more frequent back then but perhaps not.

Hope you had a good week too.  Please keep your friends and neighbors in your prayers and remember those who have been devastated by the hurricanes.  Scatter Kindness and Love.
