We Are Community 251
Today is Easter Sunday. When we are in the womb, if we have the power of thought, we probably cannot imagine a different life than our warm comfortable surrounding yet we are forced out into a new world. If we are lucky, we are nurtured and loved for several years then go out on our own. Eventually this life ends too and Easter gives us the hope of yet another “life” after this one.
Plymouth lost a great person this week. Darla Whitford passed away. She was very important in so many ways to our small town. She will be missed greatly.
Missed the rally in Chandler Park this week because there was a huge Kelso auction on Saturday. Wonderful things but way too many items to be sold in one day. The auctioneers were excellent but it is very difficult to keep a crowd of buyers from 9 am until 5 pm.
Read an article by a local person about the rally in Macomb on the 5th. The author was commenting that we should not have been saying “shame” to the Republicans attending the dinner at Park Place. The present-day party is not the same party that my parents supported and that I grew up in. It has now become the party of one person with unquestioned ideas and authority. It has always been noted “that actions speak louder than words”. Wearing a cross on a necklace, making a photo op with a Bible or in a church or shouting against abortion are “words”. Cutting funding for food banks which help provide local fresh vegetables and fruit, cutting food assistance for the poor, cutting funds for special needs students, cutting Medicare which will in turn cause hospitals and nursing homes to close, trying to destroy the post office so that it can be privatized, cutting funding for PBS, grabbing people off the streets and sending them out of the country without due process, trying to destroy social security, talking about government waste while paying millions and millions for our leader to play golf each week and so much more are “actions”. In my opinion we need to be doing much more than just shouting “shame”. We need for our elected officials to rein in these actions of two people and to work for all in our country. All of our ancestors came to America for a better life and we need that opportunity to continue.
Pretty normal week and a very busy one. Got taxes signed and filed and paid what was due. Attended the antiques and collectible club meeting on Wednesday, had a gentleman at Hy vee ask me if I was a former teacher-is there a look? uncovered the fish ponds and found fish in two of them, attended Good Friday services and more and had Easter lunch with family. Hope you also had a good week.
Scattering Kindness and Love must be more than mere words. We must really see others. We must stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. We must not blindly follow one person but must try our best to do what is right and just for the most of the population.
