We Are Community for the week of Dec 23rd, 2024, by Joyce Steiner

We Are Community 234

Tis the week of Christmas 2024.  Ideally, we would be peacefully awaiting the birth of the Christ Child, going to Church, having fellowship with friends and family and eating all our favorite holiday treats.  However, life seems to get in the way sometimes.

The stoneware world lost a good friend this week.  Jake Loring, owner of Congress Street Crockoholics in Rushville, passed away this week.  When he did not come to a meeting, someone checked on him and found that he had passed.  He will be missed in my world of stoneware.  He has many friends to mourn him.

I would also like to ask for prayer for Monica Maloney.  She and her husband, Jason, own Rudy’s in Augusta which I frequently rave about.  She is very ill and in Methodist Hospital in Peoria.  Please keep the family in your prayers.

Last Saturday there were three events that I wanted to attend-the Bowen soup supper, the Messiah at Nauvoo and the Gambler at the Legacy Theater in Carthage.  Sad that so many events were on the same evening.

Attended the Christmas program given by the grade school children at the Southeastern High School gym on Monday evening.  The crowd was amazing.  It was such fun to see all the little ones dressed in their finest Christmas apparel singing their hearts out.  So glad that I got to attend.

Went to convenient care again this week thinking I might have a return of covid.  Nice doctor said not and gave me some medicine for sinus infection.  After taking the medication and sleeping for 16 hours straight, decided that I might indeed live.

I bought a quart of pumpkin spice apple cider.  I drank one cup of it.  Am going to suggest to the medical community that it would be a wonderful colonoscopy prep!

We observed the shortest day of the year this week.  The days will now start to get longer.  Soon I will be able to take sunset phots again when the sun sets after the store closes at 5 pm.

Speaking of the store, December had been really slow until Friday and Saturday.  Had several customers those two days.  Thank you so much for shopping for some of your Christmas gifts at Plymouth Rock Antiques.  We really do have an amazing selection in all price ranges.

Life changes.  My father was the youngest of four siblings.  In my growing up years, Christmas rotated among the four homes of the Steiner family.  I had two aunts and an uncle.  I remember each Christmas day was spent with the Steiner family.  I had only two first cousins on that side of the family. I had only one brother who had four children.   Sadly, most all those relatives have passed on.  I now have two nephews, one of which has two sons so the immediate Steiner family has six members.  I feel lucky to have those memories.  I know that some of you do not have any family so I wish for you good friends.

May you find Joy this holiday season. Today we lit the candle of Love.  May you find Love this holiday season. The four candles of Advent are Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. If we have these four things plus good health, we are truly blessed.  We pray for healing for so many in our area and we continue to pray for Peace for our world.  May you have a blessed Christmas and may 2025 be filled with good things for  each of us.
