We Are Community for the week of Dec 9th, 2024, by Joyce steiner

We Are Community 232

Services for Don Ussery were held at the PCCC on Saturday.  Very appropriate that his was the first service since the renovation of the Chapel as he did so much for the building.  He passed on Sunday in Quincy. Don will certainly be missed by our community.

Too many people passing on to their next life.  Ruth Kerr of Camp Point passed away one the 5th.  We taught together for many years at Central.  Marshall Porter of Plymouth also passed away on the 5th.  He worked many years for McClure Quarry.  Our sympathy and love to all these family members.

Busy week as usual.  My bedroom is upstairs and I was surprised to look out the window on Monday morning to find the lawn bathed with snow.  Decided to be brave and do all I had planned anyway so headed for Colchester for a haircut, then to Macomb for groceries and lunch then on to Carthage for a blood draw.  Though there was snow n the roads had no problems.  Since Monday was December 2nd and since an old wives’ tale says we will have the number of snows of the date of the first one, I am looking forward to only one more snow this winter!  I know we loved snow as children but I am no longer a child.

Went to Golden Good Shepherd Home for singing and mingling on Tuesday evening.  Feel this is important.  Though I am basically shy, try to talk with various residents even if I may not know them.  Talked with a lady from Warsaw who had recently lost her husband.

Covered two fish ponds on Wednesday while it was warm and got the 3rd one done this afternoon.  Hopefully the fish will live through the winter and make new little fish.  Sometimes frogs also winter over in the ponds and I have tadpoles in the spring.

The Plymouth Village Board met on Wednesday.  The Village President and one Board member were absent.  Quite a bit of discussion about work going on around the Square and future projects.  Left when they entered executive session so don’t know if there was more business after that.

Friday evening there were many open houses in Augusta.  Music and light show at the 19th Hole and goodies at the bank.  Had fish as usual at Rudy’s on Friday.  Always great.  There was also a light parade in Colchester.  Nice that our small towns are trying new things.  It would be good if more people shopped locally instead of at big box stores. Had two ladies come form a distance to shop the antiques store and they found many gifts there for family.  Thank you.

Santa came to Plymouth on Saturday morning.  He arrived by fire truck.  Was a nice crowd to meet him.  When I left a bit before eleven, nearly seventy gifts had been given out.  Thank you to all who did so much work preparing for Santa, purchasing gifts and making cookies.  It is appreciated.

The Plymouth American Legion had a soup supper and drawing for their cash raffle on Saturday evening.  Soups were great.  One of the tickets I sold was a winner and I won the door prize.  Hope you were able to support the Legion as they are very important to our area.

Don’t get a lot of time to watch TV but have always liked Blue Bloods probably because of Tom Selleck.  The last episode airs on this Friday.  Will miss that show.

Limabn, my 22-year-old, VW is getting a bit nervous as she has overheard the words “new car”.

Have a good week.  Enjoy the warm weather.  Has been beautiful for December.  Scatter Love and Kindness where ever you go.
