Our sympathy to the family and friends of Richard Clark who passed away on July 15th.
There was an unusual sight on the Plymouth Square this week. Always have the door to the antique store open so heard distinctive music around town. It was an ice cream truck! Went out and stood in front of my store and she pulled the truck to a stop for me. Turns out it was Stan’s Ice Cream from Milan Illinois. The driver said she comes through Plymouth every two to three weeks. While she was in front of my store, she had four more customers. Really neat as one just reads about ice cream trucks in the comic strips.
Was a busy week as usual. Met with family on Sunday afternoon to plan the services for my sister-in-law. Monday went to advise a friend on some of their antiques and what to do with them. Also had a B&B guest. Love this guy. He drives for the Amish and he or his wife often stay here. He knows something about everything and claims to be bipolar and have ADHD. As a result, he majored in psychology. Asked him what he knew about snakes as I have found three in my yard that I could not identify. Told me he knew a lot about them as he had raised them and proceeded to tell me the name, sex and age of my little friends. Also told me about other adventures he has had and that his son plans to make a career of driving the Amish. I had no idea that this could even be a career path. Owning a B&B can be very interesting!
Neighbors trying to clean my garage so unpacked a few boxes that have been in there for many years. Anyone need some Garfield cups.
Have also been trying to weed some of the flower beds, photographing sunsets and flowers and spent an enjoyable evening with friends. Cleaned one bath and vacuumed for a guest who later cancelled. This is OK because one needs to do that pretty often anyway.
The Antiques and Collectibles Club met in Macomb on Wednesday evening. The program was on model cars. We have had a wide variety of subjects presented.
Saturday evening the Hancock County Historic Society met with Marla Visdal as speaker. There was a really nice crowd. Marla spoke on Vishnu Springs which is located near the McDonough-Hancock county line north of Tennessee. I have always had an interest in Vishnu as our land joined the Vishnu land. Vishnu has a long and very colorful history and it is always fun to learn more about it. The property is now owned by the WIU Foundation and is largely unused. Very sad to see it not being restored and used.
Politics took front center stage this week. If you, like me, watched all 93 minutes of the Trump speech, then you also need to read the fact checks.
President Biden released a statement today that he would drop out of the presidential race. I feel that it was a very difficult decision for him but that he did what he felt was best for the party and the country. Though I am very political, I will never “argue” politics with anyone as I feel that no one is going to change their mind and I value all my friends and customers. I have even left my own store to avoid arguments.
Looks like a busy week coming up too. I celebrate a birthday this week. Doing pretty well for “26 again”. Hope you have a great week and scatter Kindness and Love and do not argue politics.
