We Are Community for the week of Sept 23rd, 2024, by Joyce Steiner

We Are Community 221

This week began normally-did book work from 3rd Sunday.  Everything balanced.  Got a new political sign to replace the one stolen.  Got 2 even.  Went to Moore Tires to get lug nuts tightened after tire rotation.  Got groceries.

Tuesday was notable as we had a harvest moon, a super moon and a partial eclipse.  I do not take good moon photos but got a wonderful one from a friend.

Didn’t feel great on Wednesday so took a home covid test.  It did not work.  Remember the good old days when a bit of a sore throat or a stuffy nose was just a cold.  Not today!  Called Carthage convenient care on Thursday and the nice doctor said the covid test was positive.  Then drove to Macomb to CVS to get Paxlovid.  The cost of a prescription is amazing-over a thousand dollars but thanks to insurance or Medicare or whatever force, it was free.  Met my B&B guest at the door and told her she could not stay as I had tested positive.  Sorry because she had stayed previously for several days.

Slept a lot the rest of the week and closed the antique store.  Rode bicycle each day to keep up strength and that bit of exercise makes me feel better too.

Though I don’t eat fast food often, I do on the way home from Bloomington and when I go to Carthage.  Burger King has two Jr Whoppers for $5 which is a good deal as I like them.  Then I found that Hardees has a big bag lunch-2 full size sandwiches, fries and a drink for $5.99.  Also, a good deal!

Have been buying fresh peaches at Walmart.  For the most part they have been great but the season is ending.  Checked out pears this week.  Both green and red and both really good!

Saw many signs in yards saying that Augusta has a radio station 98.5 FM that plays oldies.  Will have to check that out.

The positive test cleared my calendar.  No dinner at Hy-Vee on Wednesday, they have great pork chops on Wednesday.  No Antiques and Collectibles Club.  Didn’t get to attend the auction of the decade-friends Ray and Kathy Goodell are moving to Florida and had a great sale on Saturday.  No church on Sunday.  You get the idea!

A really nice thing happened on Sunday.  I normally stop by Rudy’s in Augusta after church in Bowen.  They have a great chicken buffet on Sunday.  I called to see if I could get chicken to go and told Monica that I had tested positive for covid and that I should not come into the restaurant.  She said that she could bring it to my car.  When I pulled up, she brought it to me and when I tried to give her the money to pay for it, she said it was complimentary and that she hoped I would soon be better.  How nice is that!  There are many good things about living in small towns!  Thank you, Monica and Jason, for being caring human beings.

More on my covid experience.  As far as I know, this is the first time I have had covid.  I just felt like I had a cold.  A bit of a sore throat and a very stuffy head.  I took Equate cold and flu and felt better.  I coughed a bit and the cough was deep, not my normal cough.  Another friend in the area also started covid on Tuesday though we had been in none of the same places.  Ben’s daughter, in Oregon, has had covid this week also so it is wide spread.  If you think you might be sick, please get a covid test so you don’t unknowingly spread it to others.  It seems that covid is here to stay so get your shots and boosters.  Seems it is going to be a lot like the regular flu from here on-flu and covid shots each year.

Have a great week.  Take care of your self and look out for your neighbors.  Scatter Kindness and Love!
